We were sent this excellent article by a good friend, who's just as frustrated with the prevalence of Instagram bots as we are.
In it, the author spends two years growing a following on Instagram through the use of bots and with as little human interaction as possible. The results are fairly shocking, but not entirely unexpected for those of us who have been aware of these problems on Instagram for a long time.
Interestingly, the author shows how the common retort of bot users - that bot use grows genuine awareness of their account - is deeply flawed and that the people who amass large followings using bots are generally growing a following made up mostly of spam accounts.
They also tackle the age-old question of why Instagram refuse to do anything about widespread and very obvious bot use.
